Viptor Says: Is NaBloPoMo Still a Thing in the WordPress Community?

Hello November, and hello to all of the lovely readers of Vipe Studio’s blog! Your friendly neighbourhood space traveller, Viptor, is here once again! And today, I want to ask you a super interesting question. Please tell me, is NaBloPoMo still a thing in the WordPress community?!

NaBlo…what now?! If you have absolutely no idea what I’m talking about, I feel you – I have to admit, I wasn’t aware of NaBloPoMo myself. Thankfully though, my friends from our WordPress Agency for Development made sure to tell me all there is to know about that weird sounding but remarkably awesome event.

So, today I thought, why not remind some of you and introduce others to NaBloPoMo? I think this event needs a bit of dusting off, as I’m not hearing a ton of buzz about it. What do you say? Let’s change that together and bring back NaBloPoMo!

You’re probably thinking, “Ok, Viptor, hold your enthusiasm for a second and explain what exactly is this curious event you’re talking about.”. Ok, ok, I hear you. Here’s what I learned about NaBloPoMo from the WordPress developers and content creators that work in our WordPress development agency.

Before NaBloPoMo There Was NaNoWriMo

To understand what NaBloPoMo is, you first need to know what NaNoWriMo is. I swear, I’m not making these words up as I write. These are actually abbreviations.

So, here’s an interesting fact for all writing aficionados out there – did you know that November is National Novel Writing Month? That is NaNoWriMo for short (I told you it’s a real thing!).

The experts from our WordPress development company have explained to me that NaNoWriMo is a worldwide movement. It is an event that takes place throughout the whole month of November every single year. Its goal?

NaNoWriMo inspires thousands of people around the globe to try and write a 50,000-word first draft of a novel. All this in the span of just one month. Wow, what a challenge that is, right?

As I found out, there is also a huge community that participates in NaNoWriMo every year. And the amazing thing is that all of the participants do the challenge out of pure devotion to the art of writing.

The WordPress developers from Vipe Studio told me that there aren’t any grand prizes or anything of the sort – only a self-tap on the shoulder to congratulate oneself for accomplishing something pretty big that takes a whole lot of discipline.

You get the point – NaNoWriMo is a fascinating event for the writers at heart that can teach you techniques and lessons which can only be forged in the battlefield of daily practice.

What about WordPress website development, though? Does NaNoWriMo have anything to do with it? Well, actually, yes, it does. Although NaNoWriMo is not directly related to WordPress, there is a spin-off of the event created especially for the blogging community.

What Is NaBloPoMo?

Well done if you guessed it – NaBloPoMo is an abbreviation that stands for National Blog Posting Month. So while NaNoWriMo isn’t invented by the WordPress community, many participants blog their journey via the platform or take part in NaBloPoMo through WordPress.

The professionals from our WordPress Agency for Development informed me that sadly, NaBloPoMo never really reached the global success of NaNoWriMo. For example, there isn’t even an official website dedicated to the month-long blogging challenge.

With that being said, though, NaBloPoMo had its peak in popularity a few years back. WordPress.com even tried to hype its users for the event with several blog posts related to it. However, the platform has last mentioned the challenge in 2014, which was definitely a long time ago.

I was curious to find out from my friends at our WordPress development agency that it was actually blogger Eden Kennedy who began NaBloPoMo back in 2006. He obviously did that in response to the NaNoWriMo craze.

His idea sprung from the realization that not everyone has the time or desire to write 50,000 words in a single month. However, there are still many people who want to develop their writing skills further.

So the NaBloPoMo challenge was born and it has some rather simple rules – just blog whatever you want to blog (it doesn’t have to be a stellar 1,500-word piece) every day throughout November.

Why Should NaBloPoMo Be Encouraged?

Everyone at our WordPress development company agrees on one thing – NaBloPoMo is an awesome challenge, and it definitely needs to be encouraged. We really want to remind the WordPress community of it and spark some inspiration that will urge people to participate in the event.

I know what you’re thinking – “Viptor, you’re kind of late because November has already started, so we’ve missed the NaBloPoMo train.”. Look, we’re indeed in the first week of November already, but the great thing about NaBloPoMo is that it isn’t some strict Olympian discipline.

This means that you can start the challenge whenever you want to. What really counts is the commitment you put into it, whether that means posting every day for 30 days or every other day for 20 days.

The WordPress developers from Vipe Studio also told me that you can post absolutely anything your heart desires. This includes a blog, a picture, a recipe, an interview or a video – you decide.

I love that because it takes the pressure off and it promotes creativity with all kinds of content formats. At the end of the day, the important thing is to exercise your writing muscles and commit to creating content every day.

I also believe that encouraging events, such as NaBloPoMo is very important because a challenge like that can be a true motivational boost that can remind us of the magic of blogging in our own independent spaces (aka our WordPress blogs).

This is also an excellent time to consider taking the road of professional WordPress website development. Having your own website and blog can present you with the most unique opportunities to express yourself and dive deep into personal storytelling. Not to mention the wonderful connections you can make as a blog writer or a reader.

NaBloPoMo can be a purely creative exercise, but it can also enrich your life with new experiences that emerge because of the challenge. So, it’s definitely worth giving it a go, if you ask me.

How Can You Participate in NaBloPoMo?

If I’ve sparked your interest and you like the idea behind NaBloPoMo, then you’re probably wondering how you can take part in the event.

I and my friends from our WordPress Agency for Development can give you just a few boxes you need to tick to participate in NaBloPoMo. Here’s everything you need to do to engage in the challenge:

• Set a blogging goal for yourself: If you would like, you can blog every day throughout November. Alternatively, you can do it every other day or once a week. Whatever feels right and comfortable for you.
• Tell the world: Tell the whole world (or at least the whole Internet) you’re participating in NaBloPoMo by using the hashtag #NaBloPoMo2021 in your posts.
• Start posting: This one is self-explanatory. Just do it.
• Share your posts: Share your content by using the hashtag #NaBloPoMo2021. You can even meet some new friends along the way.
• Comment: Our WordPress development agency believes there’s nothing better than showing your support for fellow bloggers. So, just comment on other people’s posts that are tagged with #NaBloPoMo2021 – you can make someone’s day.

Let’s Bring NaBloPoMo Back!

NaBloPoMo is a lovely project that I believe can still be enjoyed by the ever-growing WordPress community. Yes, I understand that our daily lives are getting busier and busier with each passing year.

However, challenges like NaBloPoMo can really take us back to the dawn of WordPress website development, where it was all about having a little corner of the Internet for yourself. Back then, it was just you, your blog, and your creativity, undisturbed by the pressure of social media.

So, why not do it again? I and the WordPress developers from Vipe Studio want to encourage all WordPress enthusiasts to take part in NaBloPoMo this month. Try to create a regular blogging habit by posting something every day for the rest of the month.
