A Day in the Life of a WordPress Developer

10 AM – 10:30 AM

Svetlana’s workday starts at 10 a.m. “Every day is different, and no two days are the same.” She told us, “Usually when I first arrive at the office, I meet with the rest of the team at our WordPress development company to discuss our daily tasks.

Undoubtedly, the most exciting thing about my job is the diversity. I never get bored because the work is so dynamic, there is always something new happening. During our morning meeting, I am given assignments and am informed of my responsibilities for the day. Then I schedule them and make a plan.”

10:30 AM – 12:30 AM

“I like to start with the easy projects first so I can cross them off my to-do list. The more difficult ones require longer to research and think about,” she told us. She explains: “For example, today I had to work on multiple projects our WordPress development agency is currently running. I started with one of the eCommerce websites we are currently developing.

In this case, we had a custom design so I had to create a template for separate pages, and adjust the CSS so that the website is both working smoothly and looking pleasant. I had to write some additional features with jQuery to improve the functionality of the website. If the design is pre-made I have to fix any problems through CSS.

Then I included some content. On some projects, clients add the content themselves. It all depends on their personal needs. It’s extremely rewarding when you see progress on your projects. Especially with eCommerce websites where there are dozens of things happening at any given time.

Another thing I did was to connect the client’s preferred payment mechanism so that their website may provide an exceptional customer experience. Then I collaborated with the rest of the crew on integrating a third-party shopping service, and creating an inventory management system.”

12:30 PM – 3 PM

“I am usually at my most productive in the early afternoon. Today, I answered some tickets that were coming our way. Then I moved to another project, where I had to write custom code and work with the designers at our WordPress development agency.”

Svetlana claims that the afternoon is the best time for her to complete the more difficult chores on her agenda. “Today, I used API integration on one of our projects. Working with REST-API is something I truly enjoy doing. It’s amazing to see how two separate programs can communicate with one another thanks to you.

That is one of the many reasons why I enjoy working with WordPress – the system is so flexible, and it gives me a lot of freedom. I’m able to customize code and deliver unique digital experiences. Today, I created a SPA with the help of WordPress REST-API. It was challenging but fun.

Another thing I did was to optimize one of our client’s websites so it can perform better. I minified the CSS and JavaScript resources. Then, I reduced the images’ sizes without compromising the quality so the website can work fast and remain visually appealing. The last thing I did on this project was to adjust the caching settings.”

3 PM – 4 PM

Svetlana goes out for lunch around 3 p.m. “I spend nearly the entire day at my computer, so having some time to rest my body and mind is quite beneficial. It gives me more energy to work efficiently with everyone at our WordPress development company.

Hobbies and time off are highly valued here, which is something I truly love about the organization. Everyone recognizes the value of working in a pleasant workplace where fun and relaxation are valued equally to hard work.”

4 PM – 7 PM

In the late afternoon, Svetlana has some meetings with clients. “We meet with our clients regularly. I had one with other developers at our WordPress development agency this afternoon. We talked about the project and its progress. We went over some major topics like the design, the functionalities we are implementing, and so on.

We also advised the clients and explained how things are going, and they gave us feedback regarding the improvements that they would like to see. It was, in my opinion, quite productive.

I was determined to finish the rest of my to-do list after the meeting ended. I had to work on a content migration for one of our clients. Large-scale content migrations can be difficult, but with the support of the team at my WordPress development agency, everything is achievable. As the clock strikes 7 p.m. my workday comes to an end.”
