Viptor Says: WordPress Consolidates Its Stellar Position in a New Study
READING TIME: MIN
Hello, Viptor here! As per usual, I’m bringing you the latest and greatest news from the wonderful world of WordPress. This week, our WordPress Agency for Development is particularly excited to share with you a whole new study that has once again proven WordPress to be the star of all content management systems.
Now look…if you’re familiar with all the benefits of professional WordPress website development, the fact that the CMS has come on top among all the others might not be very surprising to you. Just think about it for a moment though. We all know the incredibly rapid pace at which technology is evolving every single day.
One might think that it won’t be so hard for WordPress to be replaced by some shiny new thing. Year after year though, this isn’t the scenario that plays out to be true. On the contrary, my favourite CMS continues to grow proving that it is the absolute champion for website creation that so many WordPress developers swear by.
With that being said, let me tell you all about the new study that I found out about lately. I hope that what I’m about to share with you will once again prove that you have made the best decision by choosing WordPress as the CMS for your website.
WordPress Powers 10.57% Of Top 10,000 Sites
GigaPress carried out a 2021 analysis of the world’s most popular websites. What they found out is impressive. As it turns out, WordPress powers 10.57% of the top 10,000 websites by traffic.
When we talk about the market share of known content management systems among these sites, the WordPress share amounts to 44.26% – four times more than that of its closest rival. As we already said, it’s no secret that WordPress website development dominates the CMS market. However, these numbers further prove its immense popularity among a particularly distinguished segment.
Our WordPress development agency finds this news remarkable because, among the top 10,000 websites, less than 24% are using a known CMS. What’s even more notable is that WordPress alone powers 10.57% of these sites. The remaining 13.31% are split between its 126 competitors.
GigaPress also decided to narrow down the top websites to the number of 1,000 and it turned out that WordPress powers 4.4% of them. This represents a 31.31% market share among what we like to call the best of the best sites. If you have chosen a professional WordPress website development, you’re definitely in good hands because a lot of the world’s top brands are relying on this free, open-source CMS.
A Little More Details
Here’s a little more context for the study carried out by GigaPress. What they did is they used Amazon’s Alexa Top Sites to determine the top 10,000 websites globally. This is based on Alexa Traffic Rank. After that, they ran the list of websites through a script that utilizes a variety of technical indicators to check for more than 900 known content management systems.
Our WordPress Agency for Development is not surprised by the results that came out because we know that the majority of top sites do not use a publicly available CMS. This means that 7,612 websites (76.12%) are using an unknown content management system.
Nevertheless, this doesn’t make it any less impressive that WordPress takes the lead among the rest of the tested websites with 10.57%, followed by Drupal (2.3%) and Adobe Experience Manager (2.04%). All other systems take less than 1% each.
Market Share Results
The WordPress developers from Vipe Studio are delighted to find out that their favourite CMS controls 44.26% of the market. Even serious competitors such as Drupal and Adobe Experience Manager only hold 9.63% and 8.54%, respectively.
Other runner-ups include popular CMS platforms like:
- Joomla – 2.21% market share;
- Blogger – 1.88% market share;
- Umbraco – 1.75% market share;
- DataLife Engine – 1.72% market share;
- SiteCore – 1.68% market share;
- Shopify – 1.68% market share;
- All Others – 26.64%.
The Top 1,000 Websites
The top 1,000 websites were analyzed, using the same methodology. As expected by our WordPress development agency, the proportion of CMS usage, in this case, is even smaller at under 15%. This is because websites that fall under the “giants” category (think Google, Facebook, and YouTube) have of course resorted to using their own CMS technologies.
However, this fact can’t stop the power that is WordPress because it still powers 4.4% of the world’s top 1,000 websites. Adobe Experience Manager is in second place at 2.3%, followed by Drupal at 1.6%.
The runner-ups in the top 1,000 sites include:
- Umbraco – 1.00%;
- Joomla – 0.40%;
- Arc Publishing – 0.40%;
- GitHub Pages – 0.20%;
- Shopify – 0.20%;
- Blogger – 0.20%;
- All Others – 3.4%.
Market Share in the Top 1,000 Sites
Our WordPress Agency for Development was happy to find out that among websites in the top 1,000 that use a known CMS, WordPress holds a market share of 31.21%. Followed by it are Adobe Experience Manager (16.31%) and Drupal (11.35%).
Here’s a more comprehensive list of all the other runner-ups:
- Umbraco – 7.09%;
- Joomla – 2.84%;
- Arc Publishing – 2.84%;
- GitHub Pages – 1.42%;
- Shopify – 1.42%;
- Blogger – 1.42%;
- All Others – 24.11%.
Why Does This Study Matter in 2021?
I’ve noticed a certain paradox when it comes to WordPress website development. On the one hand, there are a lot of people who have accepted WordPress as a universally good content management system that can serve the needs of all kinds of businesses, no matter how big or small they might be.
On the other hand, though, there still appears to be a misconception that WordPress is a platform only suitable for small bloggers and businesses on a tight budget. This is exactly why GigaPress’ research matters so much in 2021. The numbers and percentages provided proof that even among the top 10,000 websites, more than 10% have chosen to trust WordPress.
Our WordPress development agency believes that WordPress is a CMS that is suitable for any kind of website. The system is reliable and scalable so it ticks off these two major factors that are so vital to business growth. This means that by choosing a professional WordPress website development, you’ll get to experience all of the benefits that this robust platform presents.
After all, WordPress is powering some of the most popular websites in the world and who knows? If you choose this CMS, your own website can someday be among the top ones on the Internet. If you need any help to achieve this dream of yours, I can always recommend getting in touch with the WordPress developers from Vipe Studio – they are known for making WordPress dreams come true.
That’s all for today, folks! I’m signing off now but I’ll be with you again next week with even more interesting and exciting things to share. So long for now and don’t forget to regularly stop by Vipe Studio’s blog for fresh WordPress content!
