Viptor Says: WordPress Translation Day 2021 Extends to Month-Long Event

READING TIME: MIN

Hello, my WordPress friends! As I’ve probably said a million times already, my absolute favourite thing about WordPress is the ever so growing community of users and contributors of the CMS. Not so long ago, my buddies from our WordPress Agency for Development – Vipe Studio – told me about one very interesting aspect of WordPress website development and that is translation.

That’s right, there are WordPress Polyglots contributors from all over the world who take care of translating different elements from the content management system. How awesome is that? I’m actually starting to think about joining these contributors. After all, why not translate WordPress to a few cosmic languages as well, right? Believe it or not, my CMS of choice is becoming more and more popular in space!

With that being said, today I’ll be telling you all about this year’s WordPress Translation Day. Or should I say…WordPress Translation Month? Yes, you read that right – it is my absolute pleasure to inform you that the whole month of September 2021 is focused on WordPress Translation. My colleagues from our WordPress development agency can’t wait to hear everything about it. Since the event has already started, let’s not waste another minute and get straight into all the details!

WordPress Translation Day Expands!

This year, WordPress Translation Day began on the 1st of September. To my delight, it became clear that the event has been expanded to run from September 1-30. This means that we get a whole month of fun translating activities! Mini-events are being hosted throughout September where WordPress Polyglots contributors from around the Globe will be translating important projects such as themes, plugins, apps, meta, and docs.

I love the fact that WordPress website development can really benefit from this month-long event because it will focus on general process improvements as well as recruitment and virtual training for new PTEs/GTEs. The Polyglots contributor base has seen a great payoff from the past WordPress Translation Day events.

For example, last year the teams hosted more than 20 local events and the results were definitely productive, to say the least. More than 175,000 strings were translated in 2020, can you imagine? During the first week of the event last year, the metaphorical champion cup went to the French, Spanish, and Japanese-language locales that recorded the most translated strings. Bravo!

WordPress Translation Day 2021: The Events

So let me and my favourite WordPress Agency for Development tell you what WordPress Translation Day/Month has in store for 2021 (don’t forget the event is already running)! As of now, there are seven mini-events scheduled for 2021. They will be set in different locales throughout this month. This year the contributors are no less motivated to do a good job as they plan to translate popular plugins and WordPress core.

Portugal, Tehran, Jakarta – you name it – people from all around the world are currently translating WordPress elements! One of the largest IT hubs in India is located in Bengaluru and the event will be particularly interesting there.

Why? Because organizers will be onboarding new translators, including high school students who are interested in contributing to WordPress. Our WordPress development agency is very excited for all the newbies who will dip their toes in the vast world of WordPress website development by becoming translating contributors.

I think that you will be most interested in what WordPress Translation Day has to offer during the second half of the month though. This is when the global events will take place. These events are the most accessible ones because they will be hosted in English. Also, don’t worry about the level of knowledge you have regarding WordPress website development – contributors of all experience levels are welcome to attend.

Let’s see the events you can join:

  • Friday, September 17th at 10:00 UTC: Join “Introduction to WordPress Translation Day”;
  • Sunday, September 19th at 12:00 UTC: Join a “Panel on Polyglots Tools”;
  • Tuesday, September 21st at 11:00 UTC: Join a “Panel on Open Source Translation Communities”;
  • Thursday, September 30th at 16:00 UTC: Join “Closing Party – Why do you translate?”.

Me and my colleagues from our WordPress Agency for Development – Vipe Studio – think that these events are fantastic because they will be broadcasted on YouTube, meaning that attendees will be able to participate live. We’re especially hyped about the final session as it will sum up the month’s events, focus on success stories, and will also incorporate some fun activities and games for us to enjoy.

WordPress Translation Day 2021: New Projects

As a WordPress enthusiast myself, I am very happy to learn that this year translators are extending their volunteer efforts to some brand-new projects. For example, the contributors will be working with the Training Team to translate video workshops that are hosted on learn.wordpress.org.

Our WordPress development agency was delighted to find out that they will also be translating impressive things such as Community team resources, the Block Patterns project, and the Pattern Directory itself.

Join WordPress Translation Day 2021!

As you can see, this year’s WordPress Translation Day is really remarkable because it expands to the whole month of September. This practically makes it a virtual Polyglots WordCamp held over a month as it combines both global events and local mini-events.

I and my friends from our WordPress Agency for Development – Vipe Studio – are super excited for all the attendees who will have the opportunity to connect with team leaders and other translators. After all, the WordPress community is all about sharing our experiences and contributing to the world’s greatest CMS.

If you are anything like me, WordPress Translation Day 2021 has probably sparked your interest but you might be concerned that you’re a newbie and you have no idea how to contribute to the event.

Well, don’t worry because I did a little research and discovered that if you want to join the Polyglots team, you can check out the new Polyglots Training course on Learn WordPress.org. There, you’ll find everything you need to know about contributing.

So that was it for today, folks. Remember to always stop by Vipe Studio’s blog where you can learn all kinds of interesting things, concerning WordPress website development. And if you’re planning on creating your own website, don’t hesitate to contact the professionals from our WordPress development agency – we’d love to hear from you!
