Viptor Says: The WordPress 6.0 Walkthrough
READING TIME: MIN
Hey everyone, Viptor here! Today I and everyone at our WordPress agency for enterprise want to tell you more about a very special WordPress event that was hosted via Zoom earlier this month.
The “first-of-its-kind event” brought together members of the 6.0 release team and core contributors who did a live overview of the primary features coming in the upcoming 6.0 release of our favorite CMS.
The best part is that the event was taped and is now accessible on WordPress.tv. Of course, I’m also embedding the video below so you can watch it directly from our blog. Read on if you want to get the highlights from the event!
WordPress 6.0: What’s in Store for Us?
And so, our enterprise WordPress agency can tell you that around 400 updates and 500 bug fixes are expected in WordPress 6.0. Matías Ventura, Gutenberg’s principal architect, conducted the walkthrough of the forthcoming release.
Ventura showcased how to use the style switcher and discussed the other new templates coming in 6.0 (these include author, date, category, tag, and taxonomy). The Webfonts API was another highlight of Ventura’s presentation.
He also demonstrated how several of the editor enhancements work. We had the chance to see improvements, such as consistent styling between buttons, cross text multi-selection, appenders, and quick insertion of links.
I and everyone from our WordPress Agency for Development were happy to see refinements of the list view too.
A One-Of-A-Kind Event
I want to point out that the event was super laid-back and not at all like a glossy marketing demonstration. The WordPress developers from Vipe Studio were especially appreciative of the fact that the contributors who took part were upfront about the remaining loose ends, giving viewers a sense of the project’s trajectory.
We learned just what core contributors have in mind for future versions of the presented features.
I am happy to report that more than 120 individuals tuned to the broadcast and participated in the interactive Q&A session that happened during the walkthrough. The event was so well-received that WordPress marketing team contributor Dan Soschin said they’re thinking about doing similar live demos more often in the future.
Our WordPress development agency liked it when Soschin stated that given the excellent feedback from the panelists and participants, another walkthrough might be scheduled closer to the release date of 6.0. He also added that this practice might become a regular part of the communications cycle for future releases.
It was discussed that in future iterations of the event, alternative platforms may be explored. For instance, the team might consider a live stream service so the event can be viewed on YouTube by more WordPress enthusiasts.
Soschin said that future events may be longer to allow for more in-depth discussion and exploration of certain features. Our WordPress development company also liked the idea of themed events that can be focused on specific aspects of the project.
How to Track Specific Features of the WordPress 6.0 Release?
If you’re anything like me, you might want to track specific features in the 6.0 release. If this is the case, then I can redirect you to the Gutenberg team’s GitHub issue that lists all pending issues and blockers.
Before RC, there are a few must-have issues and nine “nice-to-have” items. I recommend you check out Soschin’s recap post. In it, you’ll find links to all of these issues, as well as a complete conversation clip and transcript from the walkthrough event. The experts from our WordPress agency for enterprise have already gone through those.
Here’s to More Walkthrough Events for Future WordPress Releases!
And so, I and everyone at our enterprise WordPress agency are happy with the success of the first-ever WordPress walkthrough event. We all found it very informative and fun. Above all, we appreciated the openness of the core contributors who didn’t shy away from addressing current issues the release is facing.
Like the rest of the WordPress community, we are eager to see what WordPress 6.0 will bring to the table. Until then, we’ll be more than happy to participate in more walkthroughs of that kind, as the format proved to be very successful.
What do you think? Did you watch the WordPress 6.0 walkthrough event, or did you learn about it now from our WordPress Agency for Development? Share your thoughts in the comment section down below!
That’s a wrap for me, folks! I’ll see you again next week when, hopefully, I’ll have even more exciting WordPress news to share. Until then! Take care!
