Hello, WordPress developers, users, and lovers! I hope you’re doing alright. Are you ready to dive into the world of WordPress again? Because today I’m back with something exciting. I know I say this all the time, but in my defense – everything related to WordPress makes me want to jump around!
One of WordPress’s core contributors, Ella van Drupe, who is also a software engineer at Automattic, released a note-taking plugin. I mean, how can you say that’s not exciting? Who doesn’t love a brand new WordPress plugin? Now that you know what I’m talking about, let’s dig in a little deeper.
What is the Hypernotes plugin?
Hypernotes is a custom post type with which end-users can take private notes. They can also use it as a journaling tool. Pretty cool, I’d say. You will be able to create folders to organize the notes better. Moreover, the notes will remain private since they can’t be published.
Our WordPress development agency finds Hypernotes a unique plugin. As I already pointed out, it allows you to create folders that work like categories. Each one of the folders gets its sub-menu link under the Notes section in the WordPress admin.
What features does the plugin have?
If you are curious about the privacy of the content, the plugin description has a security note. Furthermore, you can be sure that no post will be ever published by accident for everyone to see. The plugin automatically sets all notes to the private status.
Anyhow, it’s good to know that anyone who has the right post-editing capabilities can access the notes of others in the backend of the website. Like someone who has the Editor role. That is because Hypernotes doesn’t create custom capabilities.
That wouldn’t be a problem for anyone who runs a blog since they will be the only editors. It’s great if their only need is to have a simple note-taking tool. I and my WordPress Agency for Development think it’s good to have in mind that the plugin disables the theme editor styles.
