Viptor Says: Are the Vaccines the Solution for the WordPress Community Meetups?

Adding vaccines to the safety checklist

I’m back with some spicy news for a thing that everyone in the WordPress community is waiting for. That’s right – the return of the in-person events! Two weeks ago, Andrea Middleton suggested adding vaccination status to the in-person meetup safety checklist since the list doesn’t include vaccines yet. This is because when they created the checklist at first, the vaccines were still in an early stage. On the other hand, the progress with the vaccines now is allowing us to start incorporating them into the list, says Middleton.

What will happen with the online events?

The suggestion will allow places that don’t meet the checklist’s conditions to hold WordPress meetups for those who are vaccinated. Holding online events and live streaming them will still be strongly encouraged so everyone can have access. WordPress development agencies should consider this.

Middleton added that checking the vaccination status of individuals may not be practical if not even illegal. Hence, asking people to be responsible enough so that only the vaccinated attend these events seems more logical.

The constantly changing COVID-19 restrictions all over the world make the work of the WordPress community leadership difficult and exhausting. Things are not easy for WordPress development agencies either. It seems unthinkable to create a policy that will work on a large scale. For example, in some places fully vaccinated people will be allowed to stop wearing masks and to stop physical distancing. At the same time, some say that indoor masks will remain mandatory.

What are the consequences?

One great question was asked in the comments of the proposal. Mika Epstein (known as Ipstenu) was wondering if there will be consequences for those who disobey the honor code. It makes a lot of sense. Otherwise, there will be no point in having that proposal, as Mika says.

WordPress meetup organizers and WordPress development agencies, like any other business owner, can’t be sure who is vaccinated and who is not. The percentage of people who have had at least one dose of the vaccine is different for every single country.

There are many countries whose numbers of daily cases are significantly low, although they have a small number of people vaccinated. Nonetheless, they have to stay under quarantine and are not allowed to travel so often. Therefore, in-person meetups probably won’t be possible in these areas.

What’s next?

I will have to wait for more information about how events in the future will look like. For now, you can make the most of the lockdown and start your website. I encourage you to take advantage of what our WordPress development agency offers.
