Conversational Typeforms in WordPress: Why and How
READING TIME: MIN
Surveys, quizzes, sweepstakes, feedback, contest entries and Contact pages – all have one thing in common when it comes to building them into your WordPress site – forms, or some variation of them.
For the uninitiated, the world of forms can be instantly simplified using the stylish Typeform.
The Need for Typeform
Your visitors are your raison d’etre. They are why you’re a WordPress person today, why your website exists. So it stands to reason that you’d like to understand these people more – visitors, customers, prospects, just about anyone who made their way from a search engine to you. With Typeform, you can engage better with them, while getting that elusive understanding that’ll improve your site and what’s in it.
You could generate better leads by using a persona survey form that helps you get an idea of the customer or audience ‘persona’ that frequents your website. A contact form, on the other hand, helps you connect better and stronger with the same people. And who in their right mind can look away from a fun quiz like “Which Star Wars character are you most like?”
This, of course, means that your forms have to be top-notch. A flexible tool to create those engaging, feature-rich conversational forms for WordPress – that’s Typeform.
The Typeform Plugin for WordPress
There’s a couple of pretty straightforward reasons for why Typeform is better than its many excellent alternatives:
The Conversational form.
You’ve seen these – interactive, guided sets of steps or questions rather than a bunch of them on the same page. When implemented just the right way, the experience is more akin to ‘talking’ to an “AI bot” than ‘filling up’ a form. The first is engaging, the second feels more like work.
Simplicity.
While the end product looks more polished and engaging, Typeform doesn’t make life difficult for you – in fact, the process is more, not less intuitive.
Typeform Installation
Follow these steps to get set up with Typeform:
- You can get the Typeform plugin for WordPress from WordPress.org or from the Typeform website. The zip file that you get can be uploaded with ‘Add New’ under ‘Plugins’ in the dashboard. Click on ‘Upload Plugin’ to continue.
- Install and activate the plugin.
- Use the Block editor on any post or page, and every time you select a block, you’ll notice an ‘Add Typeform’ option in the editor.
Using a Typeform You’ve Already Made
If you’ve been on the developer’s website, for instance, and made your own Typeform already, all you really want to do is embed it in your site:
Click the ‘Typeform’ button while in the Editor, and log in with your Typeform account using the login popup that appears.
You’ll see all the forms on your account and you can pick one of them from the My Typeforms dropdown menu, to embed in your post or page. After this, choose a delivery method.
The standard delivery will directly load the form as part of the page, while the popup delivery method will create a popup for users to click. Choose whichever option works for you; neither is intrinsically better. Publish or Save, and your new form is deployed!
Creating a New Form
If, however, you decide to create a fresh form, follow these seamless steps instead:
- In the Typeform menu in your dashboard, click on ‘View Typeform’ at the top right of the screen. This switches the plugin ‘mode’ and you can create a new form.
- Click ‘Start’ to be shown an example question that you can answer. Next, click on ‘Create a typeform’. A few questions later, you should be at the Typeform workspace.
- Even in the free version of the plugin, you can choose from three kinds, while the premium version lets you access a whole lot more. Once you select a typeform, the template gallery opens up. Select a template you like, or create your form from the ground up – the choice is yours.
- Typeform will preview the template you choose, and you can edit it to customize it to your liking.
Build the kind of form you’d like, and publish it. You’re good to go, and now, you know how Typeform can help you build hip, conversational forms for better engagement with customers.
