Now, let\u2019s discuss what you came for. Recently, Jetpack has announced that they are acquiring the WordPress vulnerability database plugin,<\/strong> better known as WPScan. That\u2019s extremely executing news for the WP community. So, I suggest all of us dive into it a little bit deeper. Below, you can find everything you need to know about WPScan and its acquisition.<\/p>\n

What Is WPScan?<\/h2>\n

WPScan<\/a> is a vulnerability database for WordPress core, plugins, and themes. According to my WordPress development agency, it is popular software in the WordPress community. In a post from the 4th of November 2021 Jetpack announced that it\u2019s acquiring WPScan.<\/a> Steve Seear, Jetpack Product Engineering Lead at Automattic (the company that owns Jetpack) said that Automattic has sponsored WPScan in the past and they have used the software to power Jetpack Scan.<\/a><\/p>\n

Our WordPress development agency believes that this acquisition can give the WP community new opportunities to look for.<\/strong> It will allow the creation of a one-of-a-kind security offering. Furthermore, it is an opportunity to make malware data and APIs more open source. Seear has even pointed out that they will try to find a way to make the API free for non-commercial websites.<\/p>\n

Ryan Dewhurst and Erwan Le Rousseau, two of the WPScan founders, will join Automattic to continue improving security for WordPress. WPScan will continue operating on its own, but in the future, we can expect the software to be integrated into Jetpack Scan.<\/p>\n
